The PHP and JS Days are some of the smaller conferences run by GRUSP, but the learnings and sense of community are big. I love attending nearby conferences, and hoped on a train to Verona to attend.
The lineup was as great as I remember from a few years ago, and I saw a lot of fun talks. Here are some that really stood out to me:
Hannes told us a tale about time. This was a very refreshing session because time is an incredibly complex construct.
Bastian Hofmann (aka the other Bastian) talked about Kubernetes. His session was a great introduction for people that are just starting to delve into the wonderful world of containers, check it out here!
Although tech talks certainly dominated the schedule, I was extremely moved by this wonderful session on mental health. Nara gave a lot of information and insights valuable to everyone in the workplace. I would highly recommend watching the recording of her talk here.
Serverless is a big topic right now and there was a great talk from Luciano Mammino that gave background, basics, and a general understanding on the topic.
From an organizational point of view there were a few nice things that stood out for me and are worth mentioning. As speaker at of PHP Days I was also allowed to attend the JS Days which was a great feature. I was able to at other hear sessions that are outside my usual scope and learned several new things along the way.
The local team does a great job to make sure all speakers are well connected. We had a Telegram group where all of us could chat and find peers or someone to eat dinner with. That was a great touch, and made me feel like a part of the community.
What I really liked?
Strong Italian Coffee!
The great Italian food!
The atmosphere
The good feedback of the attendees towards the talks
